Kevin Landis is the chief investment officer of Firsthand Capital Management and our portfolio manager. Kevin founded Firsthand in 1994 and has since become one of the nation's best-known technology investors. He has been making venture capital investments in primary transactions since 1998, focusing on the technology and cleantech sectors.
Kevin, born and raised in Silicon Valley, has over two decades of experience in engineering, market research, product management, and investing in the technology sector. He appears regularly on CNBC, CNBC Asia, and Bloomberg News, and has been featured in Forbes, Fortune, Smart Money, Time, and Money magazines. He is also a frequent guest lecturer at Santa Clara University's Leavey School of Business, sharing his advice not only on technology investments, but also on management and mentoring of technology entrepreneurs.

In addition to advising on technology and operational areas of the venture capital practice, Nick serves as a senior analyst and director of research for Firsthand. Prior to joining Firsthand's investment team in 2004, Nick spent over 15 years in the high-tech industry, where his experience encompassed database programming, hardware design, product marketing, and business unit management in the semiconductor, security, contract manufacturing, and software industries. He also managed an international joint venture company and co-founded a technology start-up.
Nick received an undergraduate degree in applied mathematics and a master's degree in computer science from Russia's St. Petersburg State University. He went on to earn a master's degree in electrical engineering and an MBA from Santa Clara University. Nick also completed the Advanced Management Programme at Templeton College, University of Oxford. |

Phil, responsible for sales, marketing, and business development at Firsthand, brings nearly two decades of industry experience to the analysis, due diligence, and management of portfolio companies. His primary areas of expertise are go-to-market strategies and valuation analysis for potential and current investments.
Earlier in his career, Phil worked as an industry analyst and a marketing strategy consultant to various Fortune 500 firms. After honing his marketing and product planning skills at Intel Corporation, Phil transitioned to the financial industry, joining Firsthand's team in 1998. During his tenure with the adviser, Phil has been involved in valuation and company analysis for 10 private equity investments.
Phil holds an AB degree in Economics from Stanford University and an MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. |

In addition to his responsibility for financial and legal issues for Firsthand's Venture Capital practice, Kelvin serves as Firsthand's general counsel.
Kelvin joined the Firsthand team in 2001. Earlier in his career, he worked for Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP and Heller Ehrman LLP, where he maintained a corporate and securities law practice focused on private companies and investment funds. Kelvin has represented numerous private and public companies in equity financing and M&A transactions. He has extensive experience advising U.S., Asian, and European venture capital funds, mutual funds, and hedge funds on formation and operational issues.
Kelvin earned a BA in accounting and an MA in Tax from University of Wisconsin and a JD from University of Minnesota. |
